Taught by Ely Artist, Joe Baltich
with a grant made possible by the Minnesota State Arts Board.

Minnesota’s arts and cultural heritage fund In November 2008, Minnesotans passed the clean water, land, and legacy amendment to the Minnesota Constitution. As a result, over twenty-five years, threeeighths of one percent of the state’s sales tax will be dedicated as follows: 33 percent to a clean water fund, 33 percent to an outdoor heritage fund, 14.25 percent to a parks and trails fund, and 19.75 percent to an arts and cultural heritage fund. Proceeds from the arts and cultural heritage fund “may be spent only on arts, arts education and arts access and to preserve Minnesota’s history and cultural heritage.

About the Artist
As a professional artist from Ely, MN, Joe's career path has lead him to painting the tiniest of works to large scale public art with commissions of every size and subject.  Displayed from Ely to Congressional offices in Washington, DC, Joe's art often depicts his roots centered around wilderness guiding and a lifetime of owning/operating his wilderness vacation resort.   Joe's self-taught development in fine art painting stems from his natural background of Minnesota's truly great outdoors.  When not painting commissioned works, Joe paints art for community events such as the Ely Stone Stash, a fine-art stone Easter egg hunt in October, Stones Of Uplifting Light (SOUL) for those diagnosed with terminal illnesses, and individual organization fund raising events such as the Prospector ATV Trail System, Incredible Ely, and Ely Community Resources, to name just a few.  Joe's love of painting lead him to starting Into The Brush, a non-profit to lure people back to Ely to artistically observe and capture on canvas the exquisite beauty that is everywhere in this region.  His style of  teaching others how to paint is centered around humor and patience.  He believes  "if it isn't fun, then why the heck are we doing it?"
